OSTİMTECH Opens Academic Year with Keynote by Defense Industry President Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün

OSTİM Technical University inaugurated the 2024–2025 Academic Year with an opening lecture delivered by Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün, President of the Presidency of Defense Industries of the Republic of Türkiye 

In his speech at the opening ceremony of the 2024–2025 Academic Year, OSTİM Technical University Rector Prof. Dr. Murat Yülek emphasized the university’s close integration with industry and its entrepreneurship-oriented education model. He stated, “As a third-generation, innovative, and entrepreneurial university, our primary goal is to educate qualified young individuals who will enable Türkiye to become a global leader through the technologies it develops.”

In his speech, Prof. Dr. Yülek highlighted the university’s achievements in the fields of industry and technology, stating, “We secured second place in Türkiye with nine awards at the 9th International Invention Fair, thanks to the projects developed by our Technology Transfer Office. We also made a notable impact at this year’s TEKNOFEST.” He further emphasized that the university takes great pride in its students, who have excelled not only academically but also in sports.

Prof. Dr. Murat Yülek emphasized that the university operates with a strong sense of social responsibility and is committed to nurturing individuals who are not only academically proficient but also guided by strong spiritual values. Highlighting the university’s ongoing progress in the Times Higher Education (THE) rankings, he concluded by extending his best wishes for a healthy and successful academic year..

“Türkiye for the good of the world; OSTİM and OSTİM Technical University for the good of Türkiye.”

In his speech at the 2024–2025 Academic Year opening ceremony, Orhan Aydın, Chairman of the OSTİM OSB Board of Directors and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of OSTİM Technical University, emphasized that both OSTİM and the university have become recognized brands in a short period of time. Aydın stated, “Students from 77 provinces across Türkiye and 83 countries around the world have chosen us. Their families have entrusted their children to our care, and we are fully aware of this great responsibility. I extend my sincere thanks to everyone who has contributed to this success.”

Highlighting that the motto “The world awaits you” was chosen during the founding of the university, Orhan Aydın emphasized that students are being educated to become individuals who will make meaningful contributions wherever they go, empowered by the knowledge and vision they acquire. Quoting Alev Atlı, he stated, “Changing the negative course of the world is possible through the leadership of education, technology, cooperation, and unity of strength.” He concluded with the message: “Türkiye for the good of the world; OSTİM and OSTİM Technical University for the good of Türkiye.”

Wishing that the new academic year would bring good results for the university, the region, the country and humanity, Orhan Aydın stated that they would continue to work with all stakeholders for the good of the world.

Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün Emphasizes Complete Independence for Young People

Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün, President of the Presidency of Defense Industries of the Republic of Türkiye, delivered the opening lecture to students at the inauguration of OSTİM Technical University’s 2024–2025 academic year. Expressing his pleasure at being with the young individuals who will shape the Türkiye of the future, Görgün noted that the students showed great interest throughout the lecture and that he was especially pleased to see them freely expressing their ideas.

Prof. Dr. Görgün stated, “I would like to extend my thanks to my young colleagues and to our Rector, Prof. Dr. Murat Yülek, for their kind hospitality. The success of our country in the defense industry has been achieved through original projects and high-quality educational programs. OSTİM Technical University also plays a significant role as an educational and research hub through the successful projects it undertakes.”​

"Youth Will Carry Forward Türkiye’s Vision"

Emphasizing that the youth who will advance the country’s vision are the greatest source of hope during Türkiye’s pursuit of developing independent technologies, Prof. Dr. Görgün stated: “We have a responsibility to pass on the experiences we have gained along this journey to our younger brothers and sisters and to do our utmost to support their specialization in their respective fields. I would like to once again thank OSTİM Technical University for this inspiring gathering, which strengthens our hope for the future. I wish all our students a successful academic year.”

For his valuable contributions to our country, a plaque of appreciation was presented to Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün during the Academic Opening Ceremony.

Prof. Dr. Şükrü Karatepe on "The Sense of Law and Justice"

Remarkable Seminar

At the seminar held at OSTİM Technical University, Prof. Dr. Şükrü Karatepe, Vice Chairman of the Local Government Policies Board of the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye, addressed key issues concerning the functioning of the legal system in his presentation titled “Law and the Sense of Justice.” The seminar, which attracted considerable interest from participants, underscored that justice is the fundamental objective of the law.

The Function of Law: Ensuring Trust, Order, and Social Peace

In the first part of the seminar, it was emphasized that the fundamental function of law is to establish trust, order, and peace within society. Prof. Dr. Karatepe noted that the ultimate aim of law is justice, further stating that justice is one of the most complex and deeply explored concepts in both philosophy and religion..

On the Definition of Justice

Prof. Dr. Karatepe explored the historical and cultural dimensions of justice, noting that in classical tradition, justice was regarded as the “opposite of oppression.” He discussed various definitions of justice, including concepts such as “giving everyone their due,” “treating individuals impartially and equally,” and “defending the righteous rather than the powerful.” He emphasized that true justice can be achieved by acting in accordance with both the law and conscience, and by making decisions rooted in truth.
