Prof. Dr. Mehmet MUTLU

Prof. Dr. Mutlu received the degrees of B.Sc. (1980) from Middle East Technical University, M.Sc. (1983) and Ph.D. (1988) from Hacettepe University, in Chemical Engineering. He was working as a professor in Biomedical Engineering Department for the last 6 years (2013-2019) in TOBB University of Economics and Technology and director of the Plasma Aided Biomedical (pabmed) research group. He was a professor of food, nanomedicine-nanotechnology and bioengineering divisions and director of the Plasma Aided Bioengineering and Biotechnology (PABB) research group at Hacettepe University in the period of 1990-2013. He published more than 100 papers in SCI coverage with 2450 citations (h index: 30), and edited 2 international books on Biosensors (Taylor and Francis, CRC) and Plasma Technology (European Science Foundation, ESF). He directed more than 25 projects including KONNECT, KORANET, COST, FP7, UNDP, EUREKA, TÜBİTAK and SANTEZ programs. He specialized on plasma surface modification: for biosensors; amyloid like proteins; Protein/Bacteria antifouling surfaces; medical textiles; food//biomaterial sterilization or decontamination. He was IAEA Research Fellow at University of Manchester, Medical School, United Kingdom; Fulbright Scholar, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Department of Biological Systems Engineering, USA and Marie-Curie Professor, University of Maribor, Mechanical Engineering Faculty, Slovenia. At present, he is the member of Fulbright Foundation Scholarship Programs Referee Committee; Member of Kazakhstan Academia of Sciences, International Projects evaluation Committee and Member of Polish Academy of Sciences.  

     
 

Assist. Prof. Atakan PEKER

Atakan Peker graduated from Boğaziçi University Mechanical Engineering and Physics departments and received his doctorate from California Technology Institute (CALTECH) on materials science. In his dissertation studies, he made and developed the invention of liquidmetal alloys (bulky metallic glass) together with his thesis teacher. Subsequently, he joined a start-up company so that the present invention could be transformed into a commercial product and developed by technology transfer. After his doctorate, he conducted scientific-technical researches in the private sector and university in USA for 21 years and also worked as an R&D manager. He has extensive experience in start-up, intellectual property, technology transfer and patent development. He has more than 40 patents and patent applications, and their commercial product sales and licensing revenues exceed $ 100 million. Most of these patents were licensed by the Apple company in 2011. He has more than 20 scientific publications with a total number of citations exceeding 5,000. In 2015, he joined IP and IBM Research and began working as Business Development Manager in Turkey related with these issues. Finally, he worked as the General Manager at YİTAL Mikroelektronik A.Ş.

     
 

Assist. Prof. Okan Öner EKİZ

Dr. Okan Öner Ekiz completed his undergraduate education at Middle East Technical University (METU), Metallurgy and Materials Engineering Department in 2008. He received his master's and doctorate degrees from Bilkent University, National Nanotechnology Research Center (UNAM), Materials Science and Nanotechnology Department. His undergraduate and post-graduate studies have been published and quoted in important international journals. He discovered the electrochemical reversible phase changes of Graphene and Graphene Oxide in his doctoral studies. Nanodev Scientific A.Ş. (2010) established the initiative. It has commercialized hard-to-reach research devices such as Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) and delivered them to important R&D laboratories. His initiatives were deemed worthy of important awards in various events and competitions and were supported by many institutions. In addition to the company's activities, it organizes trainings in order to transfer its experiences to new entrepreneurs.

     
 

Assist. Prof. Yelda DOĞAN

Dr. Yelda Dogan received her BS degree in Chemistry at Middle East Technical University in 2006. She completed her MS degree at Hacettepe University Nanotechnology and Nanomedicine  in 2011. She modified the surface of medical grade poli(vinyl chloride) films by UV induced graft copolymerization in her thesis study. She recieved her PhD degree at Bilkent University, National Nanotechnology Research Center (UNAM) Institute of  Material Science and Nanotechnology between 2011-2016. After that, she carried out postdoctoral studies at the same department between 2016-2018. She produced polybenzoxazine based high performance nanofibers via electrospining during PhD and postdoctoral studies. Also she tested molecular filtration performance of these composite nanofibers with dye molecules, polyaromatic hydrocarbons and heavy metal solutions to show potantial application of these nanofibers for water purification. She worked as a teaching and instrument asistant at UNAM between 2011-2016. She also participed in COST Actions about Electrospinning as a organizing member and trainer organized by Tamer Uyar at UNAM between 2012-2015. Her main research areas are nanofibers, polybenzoxazine resins, composite nanomaterials, molecular filtration and water purification.

Dr. Yavuz received Ph.D. with High Honors from Ecole Centrale Paris (CentraleSupélec) CNRS UMR 8579 Mechanics of Soils, Structures and Materials in 2012. She was Ph.D. fellow of French Government (CNOUS) from 2008 to 2012. She completed her Ph.D. studies in the frame of an ANR Project (contact grant no. ANR-08-MAPR-0025) coordinated by EADS France (Airbus Group) during her doctoral studies in France. In her thesis, she developed DBD assisted plasma modified hybrid materials for aircraft structures. She conducted research in the area of composite structures, plasma processing, materials characterization, and experimental mechanics at École Normale Supérieure de Cachan PPSM CNRS UMR 8531, Ecole Centrale Paris CNRS UMR 8579, Supelec LGEP CNRS UMR 8507, and ICM Paris-Est MCMC CNRS UMR 7182. Her M.Sc. studies was supported by The Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources (contact grant no. BOREN-2006-Ç-02). She earned M.Sc. and B.Sc. degrees from Gazi University in 2007 and 2005, respectively. She held certificates in Aerospace Applications of Systems Engineering and Project Management for Aerospace Professionals both from the University of Kansas in 2013 and Data Science from Booz Allen Hamilton in 2015.

She worked as a Technical Consultant and Project Coordinator at the Undersecretariat for Defense Industries from 2012 to 2015. Previously, she worked as a Technical Coordination Engineer at Turkish Armed Forces 901st Main Maintenance Center Command. She was in charge of big data analytics research team at STM Inc. during 2015. She delivered several courses at University of Turkish Aeronautical Association such as Aircraft Structures, Finite Element Method, Impact Dynamics and Spacecraft Protection, and Composites Materials for about 5 years. She joined Ostim Technical University Department of Aerospace Engineering as a full time faculty member in 2021.

She is currently a member of Association de l'Ecole Centrale Paris, Groupement des Centraliens de l'Aéronautique et de l'Espace, GDR-GNT Groupement de Recherche: Graphene-Nanotubes. She serves as a referee for the Journal of Applied Polymer Science (Print ISSN: 0021-8995) and Communications Faculty of Sciences University of Ankara Series A2-A3 Physical Sciences and Engineering (Print ISSN 1303-6009).

     
 

Research Assist. Saliha SÖKEN

 

She graduated from KTO Karatay University, Department of Materials Science and Nanotechnology Engineering in 2020. She started his master's degree with thesis in the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at Necmettin Erbakan University in 2020. Her undergraduate thesis was on the production and characterization of boron carbide reinforced, 304 stainless steel matrix composites. Her fields of study are on composite and polymer materials.

Assoc. Prof. Abdülkerim Yörükoğlu

He was born in Sivas in 1968. He completed his primary, secondary and high school education in Ankara. He graduated from Hacettepe University Engineering Faculty Mining Engineering Department. He completed his master's degree in 1993 and PhD in 2000 from Hacettepe University, Institute of Science, Department of Mining Engineering. He started working as a Research Assistant at Hacettepe University in 1990. Dr. Abdulkerim YÖRÜKOĞLU later served as Engineer and Deputy General Manager at MTA and as Deputy Undersecretary at the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources by proxy. He has been working as the President of the National Boron Research Institute "BOREN" since 2015. He is an expert in Mineral Processing and Hydrometallurgy, and in recent years, he has been working on total quality in management, performance management, project management, corporate resource planning. He has over 30 articles, publications and 7 patents, 10 of which are in international journals.
