OSTIM Technical University Faculty of Architecture and Design Department of Industrial Design has started to accept students for the first time in the 2019-2020 Academic Year. The language of education of our department is Turkish and the duration of education is 4 years. Our department is an undergraduate department that aims to train Industrial Designers who have adapted to today's developments in the fields of technology and digitalization.
The Industrial Design Department aims to train people who can design personal or corporate products that are planned to be mass produced in the industry, especially by taking into account conditions such as functionality, ergonomics and cost, and who can plan the production methods and processes of products. Graduates of this department can create solutions to problems and ensure the successful execution of this process by working in coordination with different disciplines in the processes of designing new products or developing existing products.
The industrial designer combines art and engineering in product designs. Industrial designers focus on the user experience when creating style and function for a product. Industrial designers, defined as product, system, service and experience designers, can find the opportunity to work in a wide range of fields from toys to jewelry, furniture to durable household appliances, industrial equipment to motor vehicles. With the increasing competition in the globalizing world, it is becoming more and more important that the products produced have significant advantages compared to their competitors both in terms of function and aesthetics. In order for the products to have the desired characteristics and to get ahead of their competitors, it has become inevitable for individuals who specialize in industrial design to take an active role in the market.
OSTIM Technical University, which has taken its place in Turkey and the World as a Third Generation University, has put forward an innovative, entrepreneurial education model with the cooperation of industry, production, academia and has included workplace experience and practices in the education by taking the center. In this context, our Contribution Goals to our Country and the World are;
Practical training model with to train industrial designers who have up-to-date technical knowledge and skills, can analyze product-user-space relations well, versatile, environmentally sensitive, innovative, have ethical responsibility, are prone to interdisciplinary teamwork, and are sought after in national and international markets,
To produce knowledge through qualified scientific research in priority areas and to put forward original solutions for various problems by transferring this information to students, production areas and other segments of society,
To ensure the development of the country and region by producing original projects, ideas and products in the field,
To contribute to the production of high added value of the industry, to increase the competitiveness and to be a guide in the economic, technological, social and cultural development of our country,
To enrich the principles and models of education and training in our country and in the world with innovative and creative approaches.
As a result of the successful completion of the Industrial Design Program, the “Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design” is obtained.
The “Industrial Design Bachelor's Degree” obtained as a result of the successful completion of the Industrial Design Bachelor's Program is accepted as the undergraduate level in higher education (EQFLL: 6.level; QF-EHEA: 1.level) – (http://tyyc.yok.gov.tr/?pid=31)
The placement of the students in the program is done by Assessment, Selection and Placement Centre (OSYM). Foreign students are placed following the verification of the equivalence of their high school degrees as well as other requirements specified in the higher education legislation and the OSTIM Technical University legislation in force and other relevant legislation. OSTIM Technical University shall establish its own selection and placement system for foreign students within the legislation in force when deemed necessary.
Candidates who apply in accordance with the relevant regulations and guidelines (https://www.ostimteknik.edu.tr/mevzuat-icerik-407) on the dates indicated by the Academic Calendar and Student Affairs, after their admission to the Industrial Design program, submit their documents related to their previous undergraduate and associate degree studies to the relevant commissions of the Department of Industrial Design and an examination is carried out by the commissions. According to the principles of Exemption and Adjustment, the conditions required for admitted students to complete their program qualifications are determined. It is approved by the relevant board of directors.
Students are required to complete 240 ECTS credits, complete all coursework successfully in their education program and have a minimum of 2.00/4.00 cumulative grade point average to graduate.
The program consists of applied and theoretical vocational courses for the professional discipline of Industrial Design (https://www.ostimteknik.edu.tr/endustriyel-tasarim-bolumu-turkce-729/1552); elective courses for students' professional interests, out-of-area elective courses where courses opened by OSTIM Technical University and/or other universities can be taken, and entrepreneurship, introduction to university life, university joint courses and workplace practices.
Dominates the legal framework, corporate values and ethics issues in this field.
Graduates of our department can work as a designer in all sectors where mass production is required, as an industrial designer in the R & D departments of companies or public organizations, in the project units of institutions and organizations in the private or public sector. Graduates can work as a product, system, service and experience designer, and provide consulting services to companies as a freelance designer. Graduates will have the competence to perform their professions by establishing their own design offices and application workshops. Those who prefer academic studies can continue their master's and doctoral programs in Turkey or abroad and become an academic.
Graduates who have successfully completed the Industrial Design Undergraduate Program of the Faculty of Architecture and Design of Ostim Technical University gain the right to transfer to master's and doctoral programs with/ without thesis, where graduates of Industrial Design or this undergraduate program of any university are accepted.
